Continuing their impressive performance at the 2026 Asian Games, the Indian men’s kabaddi team defeated South Korea 63-31 in their second Group A match on Tuesday. Led by Sunil Kumar, India dominated from the outset and kept the Korean side under pressure throughout the contest. The victory marked India’s second consecutive win in the competition.
The Indian raiders established a firm grip on the match in the first half itself. By the break, the team had secured a commanding 34-14 lead. The Indian raiding unit consistently scored points, while the defense maintained pressure on the Korean raiders through successful tackles. India inflicted two all-outs on South Korea during the first half.
South Korea attempted to stage a comeback in the second half, but the Indian team maintained its lead throughout. India continued its aggressive style of play in the second half as well, keeping the contest one-sided. Ultimately, the Indian team secured a victory with a scoreline of 63-31.
India began its campaign with a 49-24 victory over hosts Japan. Subsequently, a big win against South Korea has further strengthened the Indian team’s position in Group A.
The Indian men’s team will now face Bangladesh in their next Group A match on September 23. Group A comprises India, Japan, Bangladesh, South Korea, and Chinese Taipei. In the group stage, each team is scheduled to play one match against every other team in its group.
Kabaddi has been one of India’s most successful disciplines at the Asian Games, with India having won 11 gold medals so far. The Indian men’s team has clinched the gold in eight out of the nine editions, while securing a bronze medal at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games. The kabaddi competition will take place in Japan’s Aichi Prefecture from September 21 to 26, with the men’s semi-finals scheduled for September 25 and the final for September 26.
